Flowers and Clouds—01
Flowers and Clouds—01
Our handmade books and journals are inspired by traditional Japanese bookbinding. We have modified some techniques in creating these books so they can be used and handled for modern times. The book pages turn in the western style from right to left and we have kept with the traditional Japanese vertical title strip placed on the front cover. The specific details and materials for this book are as follows:
Cover—Japanese Chiyogami Flowers and Cloud Print
Binding Style—Kangxi
Thread—Silk Thread in Black
Title Strip—Ivory
Corner Pieces—Celadon
End Paper—Ivory with Gold Flecks
Interior Pages—Hanshi Paper
-
Book Size—6”x9”
Pages—50 sheets of Hanshi Paper -
Hanshi paper is traditional Japanese rice paper. Rice paper is very delicate and thin. Per Japanese bookbinding methods, each page is 1 Hanshi sheet of paper folded in half. Please use the test sheet with the writing utensil you would like to write with in the book as different pens and pencils mark and bleed differently on different types of paper.
The covers of our books use a variety of Japanese paper which can be very fibrous. As such, fraying or wooling tends to occur if not sized. We have treated our paper with a solution to prevent the covers from wooling, but the possibility of fraying may still occur from every day use.
By purchasing our handmade books, you are aware these items are made by hand and the beauty of handmade crafts are the imperfections that may be present. We do our best to picture any blemishes in our photographs. Please remember our products are meant to be handled with care.
Photography and computer screens may display the overall color slightly off.
